Just got the new “Making” magazine in the mail, freshly shipped from the US. Everything in there is so beautiful!! Actually, the Marigold cardi was the main reason to buy the magazine and to justify the luxury to pay almost 25 € for one pattern (including shipping) I know promised myself to make at least 3 patterns from it. Let’s see how far I get :).

Made my swatches, both for stockinette and the lace panel (so proud I forced myself not to skip this crucial part this time). Cast on 230 st for the second smallest size. Starting with the rib, it seems like there is a small error in the pattern because it says 1x1 rib but on the picture it shows 2x2 ribs. I’m leaving it the way it is described in the pattern and I’ll see how it works out.

Progressing quite quickly and I’m about halfways done with the first sleeve. It seems like the top of the sleeve is a bit tight even though I have the required number of stitches but hopefully the blocking will fix it. I liked the construction of the sleeve cap with the short rows, it’s the first time I used this technique and it gives a nice result. Only the last sleeve and a bit left to go!

The sleeves are annoying to knit. The alpaca yarn is very slippery and keeps on slipping of the DPNs. Plus I hate to knit the sleeves from the top down because you constantly have to turn the whole project. The last straw was that I accidentally dropped one of my DPNs when I was knitting on the balcony and it fell through the cracks between the planks down to the neighbours and they haven’t found it either…. argh!! Taking a quick break from this project until I’m back in the mood again.

Finished! It took me ages to assemble and block everything but I’m very satisfied with the result. In the end, I actually re-knitted the first sleeve (on 4 DPNs after the little balcony incident) because it was just too tight and didn’t match up with the second sleeve, which I had knitted with the right amount of stitches. Lovely pattern, especially nice detail are the short rows on the sleeve caps which I tried for the first time.
