Notes

Welcome to my Knit Cable Braid Wreath project guide. I hope you’ll be inspired to try this easy and quick project to create your own autumn door bling.

Recommended Materials:

  • craft hoop - whatever size you wish, I used a small one.
  • needles required for your yarn weight and prefered gauge, I used US size 10/6mm
  • cable needle or short DPN
  • crochet hook similar size to knitting needles
  • yarn, worsted or 3 strands of fingering weight, approximately 100g yarn for small hoop.

The sample was made holding 3 strands of fingering weight sock yarn in 3 different colors of my (nowmsold out) Autumn bundle, and 6mm needles, but you could choose worsted weight also.

Method of construction:
A: Complete cable braid then attach to wrapped hoop
B: Work braid for a few inches then begin anchoring to wrapped hoop as you go.

I used method B and anchored the braid every few inches (by catching a loop of the hoop yarn into a worked stitch). I spaced out the anchors every two inches or so, giving myself enough room to work the back rows. I also alternated which side of the braid I anchored as I went.

Special stitches:
C5F: Slide 5 stitches purlwise onto a cable needle or DPN, hold in front
C5B: Slide 5 stitches knitwise into a cable needle or DPN, and hold in back
K5C: knit 5 stitches from the cable needle or DPN

Instructions:
A. Wrap the hoop with yarn.
- Either wrap the yarn around the hoop like tape
- or use the crochet hook to do a circle of single crochet (sc) stitches around the hoop.

Knit braid:
Cast on 15 (I used a knitted cast on but you can use long tail or other preferred)

Work the following rows as many times as necessary to make a cable braid long enough to flex gracefully around the wrapped hoop.

Rows:
1: knit
2: purl
3: knit
4: purl

  1. C5F, K5, K5C, K5
  2. Purl
  3. nit
  4. Purl
  5. K5, CB5,K5, K5C
  6. Purl
  7. Knit
  8. Purl Repeat rows 5-12 until cable is long enough to wrap nicely around hoop

Finishing:
Bind off
I finished with a 3 needle bind off, but you can bind off and see ends together if you prefer.

Attach some sprigs of artificial foliage, wrapping wire stems around hoop and use additional yarn to secure and prettify if needed.

Bling your door and welcome your guests with autumn beauty, or gift to someone to share the love green_heart
