72 rows knit and getting ready to start over. Wish I’d had the good sense to check for errata before beginning. Sigh. Well, you live and learn. The errata is here, by the way:

At least I can comfort myself with the knowledge that putting in a lifeline wouldn’t have helped me.

3/08/12
Finished the section with two strands of Nocturne and now on to the section with one strand of Nocturne and one strand of Deep Waters Tonal. I am a bit worried I may run out of Nocturne but the pattern calls for 36 rows (1 1/2 chart reps) in this section. If I get too worried, I will just shorten it to one chart rep.

3/14/12
I am pretty sure I won’t have enough Nocturne to do the 36 rows, so I am going to shorten it to one chart rep then continue on with the pattern. Knowing my luck, if I decided to do the 36 rows, I’d get about half way through row 35 and run out.

3/23/12
Instead of shortening the Nocturne section to 1 rep and having to fiddle with the other pattern charts to make up for fewer stitches, instead I decided to just rearrange which colors I used for how many rows. Just finished the leaf section, and so far it looks like I will have enough yarn.

So once I got to the section where the pattern calls for Nocturne+Deep Waters Tonal for 36 rows, I did this for 24 rows, and then:

  • Deep Waters + Deep Waters for 12 rows
  • Deep Waters + Vineyard Heather for 18 rows
  • Vineyard Heather + Vineyard Heather for 12 rows
  • Vineyard Heather + Basalt Heather for 6 rows

Then I continued on with the Snowflakes chart. Now hopefully I won’t run out of Basalt. LOL

3/30/12

Snowflakes section is finished. Thank goodness. I changed the last right side row of the snowflakes chart to knit across in order to make then did row 60 as per the pattern to make transitioning to the snowdrifts chart a little easier on myself.

4/20/12

Knitting is done. Now I just need to block. I used the following bind-off:

  1. K2tog through back loop
  2. Slip st back to left needle
  3. Repeat steps one and two until all stitches are bound off except last stitch.
  4. Feed yarn through loop of last stitch.

Tips for the pattern:

  1. Don’t feel bad if you struggle with understanding it. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

  2. Make sure to look at the errata.

  3. The way I made sense of the pattern was to knit the first half of each pattern to the center knit stitch, and then mirror those stitches the rest of the way across.
