Notes

Completed the head, body, and one ear almost immediately, then took a couple weeks off due to my schedule. Completed the second ear, tail, legs/shoes, and nose 3/7/2021. Attempted a few different ways of doing the eyes and took a break. thought about the waves of a blanket and realized I could make the eyes that way and found a fish pattern where the body is shaped like the eye, so will try that when I continue. Then, I will embroider the black and white part of the eyes and put it together.

I started all the “in the round” sections using a magic circle rather than two chains. I always knot the starting end with the continuing end, so the MC will not unravel later.

I used contrasting yarn to help me see the start/end of each round except with the ears, where I pull the starting string along.

Using 4.0 mm hook (with rubber coating from amazon) and what appears to be Red Heart Super saver yarn. (from stash- no paper).

The legs are labeled as shoes in the instructions and then as legs in the lower section of the instructions. It would be less confusing to use the same term in both places.

When making the shoes, I dropped the yarn and picked it back up again rather than tying off and starting a new one each time there was a color change.

Triangle nose ( I made this one up)
chain 5
round 1: in 2nd back rear (not back) loop, sc 1, in next decrease 1, then sc, turn without a new chain

round 2: dec. sc 1, sc 1, turn (without a new chain)

round 3: dec sc 1, chain and tie off. tie off

Yellow eyes (x2) from https://www.jennyandteddy.com/fish-crochet/
Start with chain 7 (EDIT- Nope- didn’t like the look)

I created the first eye by hand and my attempts to make the second one didn’t work as well, so I gave up and now months later, am trying the second eye again so I can gift this baby gift to the now 7 month-old baby- I know sad.

I created a half-circle, sort of a rainbow, starting with white, then black, then yellow. This rainbow is attached upside down to look like Pete’s eye.

It looks like I used the smallest hook I could with this yarn (3.5 mm).

For the second eye, I used the following patter, which seems to be exactly what I did free-hand for the first eye:

I did the following color changes:
MC white
rows 1-2: white
rows 3-4: black
rows 5-6: yellow

Leave tails long enough to attach the eye with a needle.
I attached the smooth line side showing rather than the pointy side, which may actually be the back side.
