Notes

Another little aran cardigan for an 18” doll.

I have been making little outfits for my 2 granddaughters dolls, Annabel has an American Girl and Eva has an Our Generation doll which is the same size. I have also agreed to make a few outfits for my great nieces. All 5 of them are getting Our Generation dolls for Christmas from their Nana (my sister), so I have quite a few little cardigans to make yet.

I have been using my old aran stitch knitting patterns that I used to make for my children. If I use 16” patterns, they turn out the right size for the doll.

I have now worked out roughly how many stitches to use and can adapt the different patterns to fit.

I think I will make the sleeves a little smaller on subsequent cardigans, these ones seem a little too wide.

I bought some adorable little wooden buttons for these cardigans from Ebay, so pleased with them.

Notes to Self:

Back
48 sts 2.75 mm needles for 9 rows of rib, increase to 51 sts on last row.
Change to large needles
work 12 stitches of moss, p1, k1tbl, p1, 4 for cable, 13st, panel, 4 for cable, p1, k1tbl, p1, 12 sts of moss
Work until back measures 6.5”

Front
25 sts + 5 for border
work rib and increase 1st at each end of last row, leaving 5 sts on holder for border. Don’t forget to make first buttonhole.

Work in pattern until 4.75”

Cast off 3 sts at neck end on next row, 1 st at neck edge on every following row until 19sts, continue straight until front measures same as back.

Sleeves

29 sts work 8 rows of rib increasing to 35 on last row
inc 1 st at each end on every 4th row until 40 sts and then every other row until 50 sts, work straight until desired length.

Next time I will only increase to 40 sts, as the sleeves on this one are too wide.

27 sts + 5 for button band

work straight until 4.75” finishing at neck edge 6 cables

Neck shaping
Cast off 3 sts pattern to end
dec 1 st at neck edge on every row until 19sts.
Continue without further shaping until front measures same as back.

Sleeves

cast on 29 work 8 rib rows
Inc rib every 4 sts until 34 sts.

Work blackberry stitch increasing on 5th row and every 2nd row until 40st then every following 4th row until 50 sts, work straight until desired length.
