Another baby blanket. Our nephew Christopher and his wife Charlotte are expecting a baby anytime now, so I thought I would make a blue blanket, just in case they have a boy. Update: It’s a girl, so I get to keep the blanket for a little longer.
I bought the pattern book as a digital download from Leisure Arts.
A nice easy pattern, you make the diamonds in strips. I have decided to add an extra diamond to the length and when I completed the joining, I wanted to add another half diamond (triangle) to even-off the top and bottom. If I had thought of this before I could have added the half diamonds to the top and bottom of the strips before joining.
To make a half diamond, I made the diamond to the middle row and instead of adding just the centre bobble, I worked a bobble in every alternate stitch. This worked out quite well. I then added a sc row to finish off.
It would be much easier to add the halves when working the strips, but I didn’t think of it until I had seen it joined.
I think I am going to add a border to the bottom and top, just to see how it turns out.
This is quite a dense fabric, but I am very pleased with it and I would like to keep it, but I won’t. I may make another one with different coloured diamonds, later, but it is a little hard on the wrists and is a bit of a yarn eater.
It would be a good stash-buster project.
I am very pleased with the top and bottom triangles, it neatens of the blanket, but what about the sides? I decided to try to “even off” the sides too, it took a little sorting, but I managed it in the end. This is what I did.
Half Diamonds for Blanket Sides:
- 12 ch = 11 sc.
- 2 sc bobble, 1 sc, bobble, 1sc. bobble,1 sc, bobble, 2 sc. (11)
- sc in each st (11)
- 2sc, bobble, 5sc, bobble, 2sc (11)
- sc 2 tog, sc in remaining sts (10) 6 2sc, bobble, 4 sc bobble, 2sc (10)
- sc 2 tog, sc in remaining stitches (9)
- 2 sc, bobble, 3 sc, bobble, 2 sc (9)
- sc 2 tog, sc in remaining sts (8)
- 2sc, bobble,2sc, bobble, 2sc (8)
- sc 2 tog, sc in remaining sts (7)
- 2sc, bobble, 1sc, bobble, 2sc (7)
- sc 2 tog, sc in remaining sts. (6)
- 2sc, bobble, 3 sc. (6)
- 2 sc tog, 3 sc. (5)
- 5 sc.
- 2sc in 1st st, 1 sc in remaining (6)
- 2sc, bobble, 3sc (6)
- 2sc in 1st st., 1 sc in remaining (7)
- 2sc, bobble, 1sc, bobble, 2sc (7)
Continue increasing and decreasing until desired length.
I am calling this one finished. I may put a border around, but I am thinking about that one for the time being.
Very pleased with the finished blanket. It is quite heavy and took quite a lot of yarn.
