This is the third time making this baby blanket. It is going to be for my daughter Catherine’s friend Nicola’s new baby, due in September.

It seems to be well received by the new mums when I gift it, so i’ll continue with this winning pattern.

Grey and white are the most popular colours for babies at the moment and as we don’t know whether this baby is a girl or boy, grey it is.

I particularly like this shade from Paintbox, it is a nice clean pale grey and the Paintbox yarn works well with the Stylecraft.

As usual I am making the diamond shape, as it is suitable for a girl or boy.

Update: Baby Alfie Michael was born on the 8th September 2021, weighing 7lbs 7ozs. This little boy was in a hurry and arrived 16 days early. Welcome to the world baby Alfie:)

What I did:

As I crochet tightly, my sc stitches are quite shallow, so I substituted the English DK stitches with US hdc.

I added 4 extra stitches to the width. 141 ch ]= 139 hdc.

How I made the flower into diamond:

Before row 6 an after row 10 of flower pattern:

Ch 1, 9 hdc (mb, 19 hdc) x 6 mb 9 hdc

Before row 16 and after row 20

Ch 1 ,19 hdc (mb, 19 hdc) x 5 mb, 19 hdc

Border:

I went around the whole banket with sc, using grey on grey and white on white to get a neater finish.
Crab stitch (reverse sc) all around in grey.
