I am going to try to make the flower squares all different patterns.

Square (1 & 3) = Groovyghan Square
Square (2) = Peony by Jan Eaton
Square (4 & 6) = Marigold by Jan Eaton
Square (5, 7 & 8) = Flower Square
Square (9) = Charity Daisy Square
Square (10) = Irish Rose - Improvised

I have changed the outer squares to granny clusters, so that they are all uniform to enable easier joining which is explained here beautifully by Rebby, who had the same idea, but thought to do a tutorial, which was very kind of her.

4 March 2011: Got all flower squares done and granny squares and am in the process of making the daisy squares, as I prefer them to the dots.

I have also had a taker for the blanket, my younger daughter Susie, who is very hip, has decided that she would like it, without me even asking her, so that is praise indeed.

Monday 7th March: I have changed the daisy squares a little. I have finished them off with granny clusters too and I think that they look better that way and I can join as I go.

Making Daisy into Granny Square US terms
Row 6b Do as pattern, but only do 2dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the corners.
Next Row: sl st into 2ch space of corner, ch 3, 2dc, ch 2, 3dc for corner, then skip 3 ch, 3 dc into next stitch all along to next corner 4 shells, then 3dc, ch2, 3dc into the corner.

I have joined all the squares now and have made 9 of each to make the size that I need. As I am using finer wool, the squares were coming up at 6”, so I increased them to 7” and I think the flower squares look nicer with a bigger border around them.

All strips joined now.

Friday 11 March. I have spent the last two nights crocheting the shell strip to the flower strip and wasn’t happy with the way the sc looked and then my DD (Bitsandbobs79) came to visit and mentioned that she didn’t like the way the shell stitch looked and she preferred the wrong side. So I gritted my teeth and unravelled about 12 rows of shells. I then sc along each flower square changing colours to match each square, which made the sc invisible, then I crocheted shell stitch starting at the beginning of the sc row so that the pattern was reversed. I think DD was right and I am happy now.
(see photo 20)

Sunday 13th March. Finished the shell pattern and now instead of dc strip, I have decided to do an alternating bobble pattern (see photo 21/22)

Bobble row (I did 112 stitches)(24 x 5 - 23 x 4 sts) but you will have to work out how many sts and to use)
R.S. 1 row of dc.
Bobble Row W.S. Dc into 5 sts, bobble into next yo, insert through st, pick up loop, yo, pull through 2 sts, repeat 4 more times, until 5 sts. on hook, then yo pull through 2 loops, yo and pull through remaining sts, dc into next 5 sts.
Next row: Dc into each st
Next row: Dc into 2sts then bobble, dc into 5 sts, this will alternate the position of the bobble****

Border done now, I have ripple stitched to the edge of each corner and made four small squares and placed them at each corner (see photo 23/24). The pattern is the centre of Anemone from Jan Eatons 200 Crochet Blocks.

Enjoyed making the blanket and I have a request from my granddaughter Annabel to make her one now.
