Notes

7/8/12 - I read this thread and began drooling. I had to make one NAO!

I had some white nylon cord that I bought for some long forgotten project, so I took it out and began knitting.
By the end of the first evening I was running low on the cord, so I had a hard (not!) decision to make. I could do the grown up thing, wait until I’d taken care of all my other commitments or go tho HL the next day and buy more cord.

8/8 - we get to HL and they don’t have any of the white. Again, I could be mature about it (or even claim it was a sign that I shouldn’t be doing it ATM), but instead I bought all cones they had of “black” cord. It turned out the “black” was actually navy, but hey! It’s nylon and it dyes easy.
I started again with the dark cord and one less pattern repeat (the first one would be too tall anyway).

9/8 - started the second cone, but didn’t get far (I keep on stopping to stretch the lace and admire it).

So far I’ve learnt that it’s odd to knit with this material, but not hard or painful. It does get heavy pretty fast and I had the first few sts slip off the needles a couple of times. Oddly the cord feels sticky when I’m knitting.

Unlike normal (as in what we’re used to) yarn, you can’t bunch up the sts on the needle, so there are more stopping and pulling than with normal lace.

The fabric itself will stretch a lot. On the pictures, I pinned it down to a chair, but didn’t block it properly. The measuring tape is in metric (not imperial).

Oh! Before I forget, when I started I had the cone by my feet on the floor and the cord was kinking like crazy. I’m using the bobbin holder from my Minstrel so that the cone can rotate freely.

10/8 - didn’t work on this today. I woke up with a stiff finger (may or may not be due to knitting the fence two days in a row) and got busy rubbernecking looking at something shiny on the internet.
