Off Piste: Top Down,
Since this is an outdoors jacket, I will knit a size 44 for bust size 40. I will try to fit it in the shoulders, but I will increase for the bust as I am knitting top-down.
St. Gauge= 36:5=7.2St per inch Needle size 3-3.25
MW st. Gauge= 7.25
Cast on for back 112 St.
The pattern is very complicated with lots of color changes. I don`t like the style of the sleeves very much. So, I am making some changes and will knit top down Set in Sleeves.
My first photo is knitting top-down, steek in the middle, sleeve steeks, left and right. The yarn changes occurs with in the steek. I am using 7 steek stitches.
I chose pattern C (overarm panel) as the first pattern set. Then I will knit the patterns of chart A.
I increased on each side of the middle steek 1 st. every 4 row until I reached the number of stitches I needed for the front.
I do like the colors, they are actually better looking, than in the photos. I was a bit hesitant to start this project, but now I am happy, I made the changes and look forward to the result. I knitted the sleeves in the under arm pattern only. They are knitted in the round, but I modified the star pattern, so it blends in more into the overall pattern.
I am seaming the bottom of the jacket and the sleeves instead of knitting a ribbing.
The collar and the facing is knitted in the round with eleven steek stitches. To give it a warmer look, I exchanged the color stone with cumin.
For the sewing of the facings, I used Kidsilk Haze as sewing thread. It is ideal, no bulk!
I am a bit dissappointed with the“new” Felted Tweed. There is a difference between the yarn in my stash, from a couple of years ago to this kit. This yarn now, containes a lot of coarse mohair that sticks out of the knitting. The feel of the knitting though is very pleasant.
It turned out well and Leah is happy!
This is my 25th project of 2019
