I just cant stop knitting stranded shawls! I am knitting from stash and have a whole cone of purple to use. With this pattern, markers helped me a lot!. Laying out my yarns in order of use, I suddenly had a much darker pattern repeat. I realized, to balance the pattern I had to knit a dark border. It gave the shawl an ombre effect. It worked and I like it. The colors are richer and darker than in the photos.
I deviated from Marions instructions for the border. I picked up the stitches only once and folded the border on it self. The sewing seemed less work than picking up the stitches twice and doing a 3 needle bind off.
The purple cone was all used up! The shawl is pretty large even though i did only six pattern repeats.
What I learned: Knitting the pick up stitches on both sides of the steek with 2 yarns together will help with the knitting of the border later!
