January 23: Just picked up the magazine. I hemmed and hawed about buying it, because this is the only pattern I’ll knit from it, and I already have a huge collection of similar patterns (e.g. Jean Greenhowe, especially her Bunny). In the end, the bunnies in the picture look so fat, that I couldn’t resist. Can’t wait to cast on. Ooops, I need to buy yarn first. :^)
Later that evening… Found some soft yarn in my stash, and cast on. Doubling the yarn for a tight fabric, so that the stuffing won’t show through. Also knitting this in the round, instead of back and forth as per the instructions. Done knitting the head.
January 25: Didn’t work on this yesterday. Today, finished the body, one leg and one arm. Shortened the arm from 6 rows to 4 rows. This would make a cute, fat gingerbread man in brown. This pattern’s a keeper.
Later that evening… Finished and stuffed the head/body. Working on the ears. Dreaded instructions: Rows 11-55: Knit across. I normally don’t mind zombie knitting, but it’s only 14 sts, so all that turning is driving me nuts! Did only up to row 45 on each ear, then continued with the instructions. The ears are awfully long.
And still later… All done.
Just realized that the ears are supposed to be knit with smaller needles. Ah, that explains why the ears on my bunny are so big!
