Again, not using the pattern, just borrowing the idea and wanted to give credit where credit is due. The first attempt at this hat is here. This time, I’ll crochet the circle piece (instructions for how to crochet a circle) and sew it on, instead of doing it in intarsia.

Notes to self:

• Head circumference = 21 inches
• My gauge with DK held double and 4.25 mm needles is 3.5 sts to the inch, so cast on at least 74 sts.
• Cast on 76 sts.
• 6 rounds k2-p2 ribbing.
• 15 rounds white.
• 3 rounds black.
• 15 rounds red
• {k5, k2tog} around, knit 1 round, {k4, k2tog}, knit 1 round, etc. until 11 sts left. Run yarn through remaining sts and tie off.
• single crochet a white circle with a black border, and sew it on.

Without the intarsia, this was much faster to make, about 6 hours.
