This is just a plain hat (any of the many patterns here on Ravelry), with ears sewn on.

To make the ears, by knitting in the round (make 2):

• Cast on 30-40 stitches, join in the round being careful not to twist.

• Knit 3 rounds.

• Place 2 markers so that the stitches are divided in half.

• Knit to 3 sts before the first marker, K2tog, k1. Slip marker. K1, ssk. Repeat.

• Knit 1 round.

• Repeat the last two rounds until there are about 4-6 sts left. Cut the yarn, run the tail through the remaining sts, pull firmly and knot. Push the knot inside the ear.

• Sew the ear to the hat, just above the ribbing.
