Cast on using white yarn.
Completed rows 1-5 in white.
Completed rows 6-10 in green.
Pattern called for 3 repeats of rows 5-10 so completed these in white, green, white. NOTE the colour switching required rows 6-10 and then row 5 of the next ridge be in the same colour.
Joined for knitting in the round as per instructions. Row 1 was done in the same colour as the ridge finished before the round was joined, then switched colour for rows 2-6. Continued per pattern with rows 2-6 and then row 1 of the next ridge in the same colour.
Knit per the pattern and then rather than binding off the arms as per the pattern I moved them to a stitch holder because I wanted 3/4 length sleeves rather than cap sleeves. This dress is being knit for Christmas Day and I would rather have longer sleeves than have a long sleeve vest on my little girl underneath it.
I cast on an additional 14 stitches after the front and then continued on to knit through the back. Another 14 stitches cast on after the back and then joined to knit through in the round. I wanted to create a large enough space to continue with the arms and attach them to this arm hole. Trial and error - never tried this before.
Switched to green for the main body of the dress and continued per pattern to add two stitches to round 7 each time I circled through it.
Completed 5 ridges at the end before using a stretchy purlwise bind off. Wanted to bulk out the bottom detail a little to elongate the dress. (Used the length of the 6mth dress but wishing I had used the 1yr now that it’s finished)
I decided I wanted long sleeves so picked up the 14 stitches I had cast on under each arm and linked them up with the arm stitches I had placed on stitch holders. Continued with the ridges to make 3/4 length sleeves and then finished off with a 2x2 rib cuff. As I finished off the cuff on the second arm I looked back at my photos of the progress of the dress and wasn’t too keen on how it looked with the long sleeves so ripped them back!
Popper fasteners sewn on and the two buttons on the neck closure added for decoration. A small circle of white crochet attached to the bottom of the dress and onto to that the gingerbread girl button.
The buttons were purchased from Digit Designs:

Dress is nice and roomy on my little girl who is 6mths now, will be 7mths by Christmas Day. Also fits her big brother as a tshirt, he will be 2.5yrs on Christmas Day.
