I loved this tea cozy, but wanted to make it with crochet in the round. It was a bit of trial and error, and I was making notes as I crocheted. This is the most extensive pattern I’ve written out. I hope it makes sense!
Chain 48. Join with SS.
Round 1 & 2: Chain 2, then HDC each stitch, joining circle with SS each go round.
Round 3: Chain 2, HDC 21, SS 22-25 stitches (for the spout), HDC 26-47, SS 48 (for the handle), join to 1st stitch with SS.
Round 4: Chain 2, HDC 21, SS into 22-25 SS (from last round), chain 2, HDC 26-47, SS into 48 SS, chain 1 (or two) join 1st stitch.
Round 5: Chain 2, HDC 21, Chain 4 (for stitches 22-25), HDC into stitch 26 and remaining stitches until 47. At 48 SS into previous SS. Join with SS.
Rounds 6-7: Chain 2, HDC in round until 48, then SS into stitch (or stitches) to make the hole for the handle deeper and deeper. Join round with SS to 1st stitch.
Round 8: Chain 2, HDC in round until 48, then chain 1, and join with SS to 1st stitch to join round. You should have 48 stitches.
Round 9: Chain 2, then HDC all 48 stitches, joining round with SS into 1st stitch.
Now we decrease a bit!
Round 10: Chain 2, HDC 5 stitches, on 6th stitch HDC 2 stitches together. SS final stitch into 1st stitch to join round. You should now have 40 stitches.
Round 11-last: Chain 2, HDC all stitches in round, joining round with SS to 1st stitch each round. Continue until you have the height you want. SS to join.
Last stitches: Hold the two sides of your cozy against each other - 20 stitches should line up to each other, with a hole along one side for the handle, and a hole along the other size for the spout. SS two stitches together across the top, joining the 20 stitches with one side to the 20 stitches on the other. Finish off and weave in ends.
Beak: in yellow/orange color, chain 8 stitches. Turn and Triple Crochet into 4th stitch. DC into next, HDC into next, SC into next, and SS into last. Tie off.
Eyes (two): in white, chain 4. Join with SS. Chain 3. DC into circle 11 times. Join with SS into top of chain 3 (12 stitches total). Chain 2. HDC into each DC (24 stitches total). Join with SS. Bind off.
Sew eyes and beak onto cozy. Sew (2) black buttons into the centers of the eyes for pupils.

The second owl is a much smaller teapot … I loosely followed the above directions, used a ribbed stitch, and measured against the teapot itself to make it custom-fit :)
