I’m finally going to try.

I recently saw The Greatest Showman twice, and the entire premise of the film is to realize your dream and give it your all, and not to let circumstances or obstacles or even discouraging naysayers interfere with realizing your dreams. I’m inspired. It’s the same inspiration I felt after watching The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (the Ben Stiller one), except I don’t know if I actually did anything.

At any rate, I’m going to learn these dag-on needles. Millions of people can do it. So can I, and nothing is going to stop me!

Beads: Bead Treasures in antique copper.

Tonight I did the cast on, and the first 3 rows, and the first row of the repeat series. Then I decided to start over because I knit it wrong, and throughout the first 3 rows, I couldn’t remember which way to wrap my yarn over the needle before pulling it through the loop. That was the thing I struggled with most when I took the class about a year ago. I’m trying to figure out a hint that helps me remember which way to wrap it, but right now I cannot come up with a term that helps.

It doesn’t look like much of anything right now, but this is a big deal. I have learned so much in the past few days. I have the knit stitch figured out. The k2tog is really difficult, sometimes working that stitch takes a very long time to get my needle under both stitches. One of my needles has a tip that’s more blunt than the other so poking is tough. I love placing the bead. I don’t know what I originally bought the beads for, but they look nice on the green.

Alright, I like what I’ve done. My process seems weird to me though. I have the knit stitch down, but I haven’t seen anybody work a purl the way I do. I’m pretty sure it’s correct so I guess it doesn’t matter how I do it as long as I do it.

Making great progress. I don’t have much speed, and I’ve made a couple boo boos, but I think I’ve done fairly well for my very first official project.

I missed a bead row today, but that’s alright. I’m not ready to learn how to tink back so I’ll live with it.

Time to get working on some wips.

I think I can finish this in a week. I’ve made a mess of this scarf. A couple weeks ago I went to knit night and forgot the crochet hook I was using to place my beads. I decided this segment of my scarf just wasn’t going to get any beads that night. Last knit night, I garter stitched a row, and decided not to worry about it. This scarf isn’t really going to be wearable after I’m finished, but since the entire purpose of this project was to learn -- and I have -- then I’m going to call this a resounding success!

Hey! I’ve knit as far as I care to go. I have a smidge of yarn left, but I didn’t want to work on this past today so I found a BO video and called it quits. I don’t think I would wear this in public for all the mistakes, but I’m going to block it and save it as a momento.

Apologies to Faith Schmidt for murdering her beautiful pattern. I hope more experienced knitters will try this pattern to show everybody how fun and easy it really is to make this scarf.
