Swatch in stocking stitch on 4.0mm needles. I achieved gauge! I’m so surprised!

Part A complete. I learned a number of new techniques today. This is my first time using circular needles. It’s the first time I have done sl1p. It’s the first time I have done kfb. It’s been a good knitting day.

Part B complete. In this segment I learned ssk and cdd. I think it looks pretty good.

Part C complete. This was such a pain. So many people have made this sweater, and many have made this more than once. I’m not sure I would make it again because of the needle swapping. My fingers are so sore from all the twisting and untwisting.

Picked this back up today. Today I learned how to backward loop cast on in order to join the arm sleeves and work in the round. I got the first arm and around the back, but I got stuck on the second arm because my cable was too long.
Consulted my group and was told to pull the cable through the halfway point and work the round half at a time by continuing to pull the cable through the stitches. This is called magic loop, which I didn’t understand before, but now I do.
Unfortunately I have to put it away early because I’m supposed to go to some dumb ol’ wresting thing they’re having today.

I didn’t have as much time to work on this over the weekend like I thought I would. However, I will probably be able to finish this tomorrow.
It’s fun to see how the colors play out. I don’t really care for the blue in the yarn. I don’t think it really goes with the rest of the colors and I think the yarn would be better had they left the blue out of it.

I have 22 cm. It took most of the afternoon. I remember measuring before I started this afternoon but I don’t remember if I had 8 or 12 cm already finished. Doesn’t matter really, I just like to keep track of my details.
Tomorrow it’s the garter stitch hem, blocking and choosing a button.

I did 5 garter ridges to equal 2 cm. I used a basic knitted bind off. It came out very slightly tense, but the garter hem adds some forgiveness.
I found a cute little green button to sew on. I closed some of the button band, but I left about 3 cm so that there is some give for the baby’s head.
In Summary:
For the most part I enjoyed making this sweater. I did not care for the needle swapping, but the designer is right, it’s only a few rows. I would say for what you get, it is worth it to swap. I might make this again, but there are so many baby patterns out there it’s hard to know for sure. The yarn is good, never had any splitting, but I can tell this will pill, however a newborn will probably grow out of it before it starts to show pillage, so that is a plus. Overall, it was a valuable experience. I learned several new knitting techniques and stitch sequences. I got really good practice on my stockinette and garter stitch. This project was a win!

Gave it to Blake & Kendall for Briley. I was so flattered, as it was the only gift that was passed around the room. Handmade is best.
