March 11, 2013 This may very well be a project I never finish, but my hooks have been calling me, and I love this pretty lace from the Nov/Dec. 2010 Piecework magazine. We’ll see how far it goes. I do wish it were charted, even though the directions seem very straightforward so far. I’ll try to get a picture up as soon as I have something to show.
Row 11 - Is there an error in these directions? If you do the shells as directed you would end up with 10 of them, but the piece isn’t set up for 10 shells; it’s set up for 9, and carefully counting the waaaaay too small picture in the magazine, Mr. Elwell also has 9 shells. I checked Interweave Corrections page before starting this but there are no corrections noted for this project. I might contact them about these directions.
March 12, 2013 Oh, for a chart of this! Today I kept slightly misreading the directions and ending up with the wrong number of double crochets for the next row. Frustrating, but it was nothing but Operator Error. I’ll have to be more careful.
Unless I realize I’m wrong (which I could be) I’m giving this pattern 4 stars for the directions error in Row 11. I’m also giving it a “Medium” difficulty only because of repeatedly having to find my place on all those lines of text. Having a chart to go with the pattern would cut it back to Easy, well, easily. It’s mainly double crochets and chains — not really hard crocheting. The design is gorgeous. Thank you, Mr. Elwell.
March 13, 2013 I made myself a chart. It’s very rough around the edges but I think my speed ought to seriously increase now, and my aggravation level go down. It’s too bad it can’t be shared but obviously that would violate copyright laws.
March 25, 2013 The fans are finished and ready to go onto a pillow case, which I hope to get done in a few days.
March 28, 2013 Blocking into a curve to open up the fans for good blocking. When blocking on the straight the fans seem to be scrunched and you can’t really pull them out to show the shapes well.
