Notes

This sweater is named for my mother, Tommie, who loved burgundy and interestingly, used this same method for the sweaters she knit for us. She would have been thrilled with this project. I’m planning a “boyfriend” style from my own measurements — deep V-neck raglan, very plain, with minimal waist shaping and perhaps pockets.

Oct. 12, 2012 Re-started with size 8 needles. (I didn’t like the fabric I was getting on the 7s.) Fortunately, I hadn’t gotten very far.

Oct. 31, 2012 Have been lazily knitting along and just today was able to try it on. Sleeves too big. Conventional top-down wisdom says to add 2” of cast on under the arms, and it’s at LEAST 2” too big. Rip.

+++ Took it back to no underarm stitches, clipped both underarms together and tried on again for the second picture. The sleeves are better but maybe still a little large.

November 1, 2012 I have ripped back about 2 inches and will no longer add more stitches to the sleeves, but add them only to the body. I put in a clip at the place where there are no more sleeve stitches. If this fits right, I’ll know where to stop increasing on the next sleeve, perhaps. I think I’ve built in roughly 2” of ease into the sleeves.

Nov. 14, 2012 Life has intervened and made this sweater truly poke along, aside from my already slow knitting pace. I am just below the waist shaping and need to knit a couple more rows, then try it on again to make sure it’s all at the right spot.

Nov. 17, 2012 Looks like the “minimal” waist shaping isn’t quite minimal enough. I’m going to have to rip and re-do with no shaping, I guess. Sigh.
