For what seemed like an eternity, this pattern defeated me. Though I’ve done short rows many times, I simply could not get, or visualize, what was supposed to be happening. Finally I patiently, and with determination, combed through all Purl Bee’s Q&As and here is the comment that turned the light on for me:
…you actually knit 3 stitches and you’re back to the wrapped stitch, then you knit the wrapped stitch (picking up the wrap), knit one more stitch, wrap and turn. The basic concept here is that you’re building a triangle, and each row you’re adding a stitch to the width of that triangle. So at Row 5, you’re still at the narrow point of the triangle, and as you work, the number of stitches between wraps will grow, broadening the width of the triangle.
Wow, that wasn’t hard at all!
I c/o recommended # of sts using Mecha which is 130 yards, but I was running short of yarn so skipped last decrease round & moved on to garter edge & bind off using a US 11. Size seems fine; slightly enlarged after blocking.
