Notes

Wedge method, and Hybrid Yoke: knit bottom up but the rest of the sweater will be top-down.

Size: did the math using my gauge and wanting a 40 inch size. Yoke starts with 23 repeats of a 12-stitch chart. Using my own calculated numbers for body and sleeves. Used strange brew pattern yoke depth.

Using all cc yarns single strand.

Yoke 1 (lower pics) tweaked the swatch and knit the yoke but it looked too disjointed, like the different sections came from different sweaters. Pulled back to lower lighter blue line.

Yoke 2: recharted the part above the lower blue line. I like it better, not perfect but calling it done.

Short rows

Added 3 short rows right after cast-on and 2 more before neck ribbing. Probably should have done the lower short rows after knitting the yoke, when I start knitting down from the hybrid yoke. I had to be very mindful of sleeve location, center front when placing the colorwork and doing the neck short rows. I did place markers at the lower yoke edge where the sleeve locations and center front.

A single purl round between stockinette and ribbing at neck only.

Lower hem Anke’s invisible bind-off.

Needles

Main body on size 5
Stranded knitting size 6
Ribbing size 4

After finally restarting this, knitting the body and much of one sleeve (top down), I tried it on and ughh! the center section of the yoke is too big! A lot too big. The neck area and split for the body and sleeves are fine. Back to the drawing on Stitch Fiddle. Recharting the “wedge” to be more wedge like with earlier decreases (bottom-up hybrid yoke): yoke 3!

So, amputated body and sleeve, knitting a second sleeve top down like first one starting with a cowwy cast on. Will join existing body and sleeves and reknit yoke bottom up…..

Fit is much better. Used 5 skeins including what I used for the first yoke.

Yokes

First photo is yoke 3 (final sweater, tweaked for size from yoke 2)

Second photo is yoke 2.

Third photo is yoke 1.
