Notes

I decided, after the first time I knitted socks with the lovely Silk Garden Sock yarn, that I wanted knee-highs made out of this yarn. I’m taking elements of several patterns to make these:

The toe is the Figure 8 cast on.
short row heel as demonstrated in Socks from the Toe Up by Wendy Johnson.

The idea to stripe them by knitting from two balls and switching every six rows is inspired by the Spring Socks pattern by Eveli Kaur (I’ve seen this done in other patterns though)

I want these to custom fit my leg so I’m going to refer to The blog post, More Please, from the blog Knitting to Stay Sane.

I may also refer to an Elizabeth Zimmerman book when I get to the leg to determine how to increase.

Excited about knitting these! I already have someone at work who wants a pair :)

8/17: finished the heel and am now working on the leg. Did the math last night. when all is said and done I need to increase at the 4th row when I get to where my calf starts on my leg.

9/7: Finished the first one. Turned out fantastic! I held a strand of elastic thread together with my yarn as I did the ribbing at the top.

9/29: I changed the pattern reference to “Knee Socks!” by Diana Parrington since my socks are almost exactly the same thing. This way I can share with more people. I think min calf increases are different. I may try hers on my next pair.

10/3: So I’m about ready to start the calf increases on my second sock. I checked my notes to see what I came up with math-wise. my notes say, “increase every 4th brain.” HA!

Needless to say I can’t figure out what I was trying to do. I should have written down more details. I have the number 96 written down, as in 96 stitches around when I’m at the widest point on my calf (I have giant calves). And I’m assuming I meant “Increase every 4th round.” So from this point on I’ll increase every 4th round until I get to 96 stitches.

96 stitches seems like a lot so I’ll make sure I try them on a lot to make sure they fit and don’t get too baggy.

12/29/2010: I finally finished these a couple of weeks ago. I ended up reknitting the top, adding length to the ribbing. The ribbed part extends over my knee.

Unfortunately, they still slip down my legs when I wear them. I’ll have to figure out how to fix that.
