Our kitty, BeBe, is specific in how she cuddles. My lap isn’t enough; she wants to be held in the crook of my left arm and held up high where she can nuzzle my braid.
That often leaves me trying to keyboard one handed or putting my knitting down. ‘Cause ya know you can’t neglect the cat’s wish for snuggles. Ever.
I’ve joked for awhile that I need a baby sling for her, so we can both have our way. She does like sleeping in my knitted wooly things, so why not?
I know the pattern has the disclaimer about not being intended for use with babies or anything alive. But I’m not worried - I’ll be sitting, with my ample lap just inches beneath her. Besides, she’s a cat. If anybody’s gonna get hurt with her leaping out, it’ll be me. The wooly sling just might add some padding between her claws and my flesh, lol.
04/24/2013 The pattern is coming along nicely. I extended the length with more repeats of the short row section, and just kept placing it on her until I thought it fit, before calling the pouch part done and beginning the strap.
The only thing left to determine is how receptive she’ll be, lol. Stay tuned.
04/26/13 A few times, she’s wanted cuddles while I was knitting on the strap. Perfect opportunity: I scooped her up in the pouch, she burrowed in it blissfully, and I continued knitting on the strap while she purred herself silly. Yeah, I do think this is gonna work just fine.
04/30/2013 Finished it yesterday, and just in time too - today is her birthday, lol. And she loves being in it and even sleeps on it when I just lay it on the arm of the couch.
05/04/2013 of course, when Hubby approached with the camera, she craned her neck to see what he was up to, lol.
