10/15/2013 The original hat, as worn by the character Radar on the long-running series MASH was the WWII issued M1491 hat, commonly referred to as a ‘jeep cap.’

I was looking for that pattern for a friend, and found one I’ll use for his hat someday … but I also found this one. With a fine yarn, at a fine gauge, it just screams to be made in girly colors, lol. And it just so happens I needed a pattern using sock yarn, to try out my newly dyed yarns! So yeah, this hat is mine!

11/11/2013 Happy Veterans’ Day! I’ve got 4.5 inches knitted in the pattern’s 1x1 rib on size 1 needles, making a nice stretchy, yet dense, fabric that’ll be perfect for stretching across the brim form (which I also just trimmed to size).
For the remainder of the hat, I’ll continue the 1x1, but on larger, size 2 needles, just to speed this up some.
I also realized part way through this pattern, that if I had measured and trimmed that cast-on tail to the length that’s to be knitted before decreasing, I could’ve just used it to gauge if I had knitted x amount of inches. As it is, it’s 2” shorter than that target length, lol. Oh well, I’ll remember that little idea for the next project.

11/17/2013 I wore it out today for the first time, and I absolutely LOVE wearing this hat!!!
