During the organization of the Knit on Texel retreat, we had the pleasure to meet Daphne, a dedicated shepherdess on the island.

She told us about her beautiful wool destined for waste, like over a million kilograms of wool discarded annually in the Netherlands.

With the support of the Knit on Texel retreat 2024, and in partnership with Daphne, we set out to do something about that. We created ‘Blend No. 1’, a limited-edition yarn. This locally sourced, sustainable yarn is a blend of the wool of the Schoonebeker (80%) and Heidschnucke (20%) sheep, with a metrage of 250 m / 273 yards per 100 gr skein.

Inspired by Daphne, who loves fingerless mitts for her work, I designed the Link mitts. These mitts not only showcase our special yarn but also symbolize sustainable fashion and the power of community.

This was definitely one of the coolest projects I’ve ever been part of. I sincerely hope this experiment gave Daphne the kick-start she needed to spin more of her flock’s wool in the coming years!
