5/26/2018 - Bought 4 skeins Red Heart Super Saver in Medium Purple. Hope it’s enough for size I want.
Wanted a bigger blanket than pattern so worked up a swatch and extrapolated that I’d need a starting chain of 130 to get a 35” wide blanket. After working a few rows, measured and determined blanket was about 37” wide. Was willing to live with that.
Then, several days later when I had about 6 inches of length on the blanket, noticed that I’d zoned out and started doing the pattern wrong several rows back. By the time I’d ripped out those rows, decided to just rip it all out, start over, and make it a bit narrower. Going with a starting chain of 118. According to designer’s notes, pattern is multiple of 4 + 2.
6/1/2018 - Starting over and must be finished in 9 days. Yay!
6/6/2018 - I winged it, estimating how far I could go in the body and still have enough yarn left for edging. Finished with less than 1/2 an ounce of yarn left. Right on.
Edged with one round SC on both sides and bottom. On top, where the edge was scalloped because of the shell type characteristics of the stitch, I did SC in each DC stitch and HDC in each SC where it was most indented. This made a level edge all around. Finished off with one round reverse SC (crab stitch).
Laundered, folded, boxed, wrapped, and ready to go. It turned out beautifully and I’m very happy with it. Pattern is so simple and yields a blanket of understated elegance. Lovely texture which should be a nice tactile sensation for a baby. I’d totally make this one again.
