Notes

This pattern is kinda rough around the edges, but the finished product came out alright. If I had paid for all 5 skeins of this yarn I’d be less happy with it, but luckily I won 3 of them in a raffle!

I’m using DPNs to make this for now. I finally have circulars, but I’m afraid of them lol. Also my circulars are all 60cm, which I think is too long? I don’t know how they work… My gauge is double the original designer’s (18 sts x 26 rows), because my yarn is smaller than theirs (8 wpi) and I knit very tight.

Assumptions I made in the back neckline pattern:
Where it says left/right leaning increase, I’ve used make one left/right. Also, there are increases on the wrong side, so you need to remember to do them purlwise (I guess).
Where it says “long side of the triangle”, I think that means the side currently on the needle. I measured it stretched out rather than scrunched up.
Where it says “divide by 4 and memorize the result” you divide the previously mentioned remainder by 4.

Assumptions I made in the shoulder portion:
It says “shoulders are worked in the round, starting with the cable in the front” but actually it seems like the rounds start at the back column.
It says to add the memorized number to the “’two times 19’ and ‘two times 26’ knit stitches”. There are two places where you k19 and two places where you k26, it means you should add your number to each of those, for a total of 4 times.

I’m just getting to the end of the first cable repetition, lots more to go. Loving it so far!

I think I messed up a bit, luckily I caught it not too far in. The shoulder portion is worked in the round starting at stitch marker 1. Every other round, your very first action is to increase. The instructions end those rounds by saying “knit back to marker 1”. However, if you do that, you’ve knitted that increase twice. My back column skews very slightly left now from doing that for 15 rounds without noticing. You really need two markers there, one to indicate the beginning of the round, and one to indicate the back column. Perhaps I read it wrong though.

I finally switched to circulars. The shoulder portion is almost 4” now, but I expect to need more than the original pattern based on the fit as of now. I finished the garter collar and used the Icelandic cast-off on it. However, I haven’t seamed the split yet. On mine, it’s right smack in the front of the collar, so it kind of looks nice left open. Not sure if I should close it or add a button or something else.

So I’ve finally finished, it’s blocking now. Here are some more weird parts of the pattern I’m not quite following:

During the triangle short row shaping at the bottom of the cables, you still work the cable pattern. However, it’s not very clear on what to do when the cable involves a stitch that is not being worked due to the shaping.

After the shaping, it says to attach new yarn, but the sentence explaining where is very hard to parse. I attached it to the right of the 2 stitches forming the “point”.

After that, you continue the round to the center back column, remove markers 1 and 2, and work a decrease, but it is unclear where the decrease actually goes.

For the hem border, there is a repeating row 1 and row 2, but it’s really a repeat of TWO of row 1 and then row 2. Also, both row 1 and 2 start with the instruction “turn”, but I think you’re not supposed to turn when you do the second row 1. That would make row 2 alternate between being on the right and wrong side, which I don’t think it’s supposed to be?

Also, the only two markers left should be 5 and 6, but the pattern is calling them 6 and 7 for some reason, and doesn’t seem to put them in the correct order.

Also also, you’re supposed to knit “to the end” and turn, but since I removed the stitch markers where the end used to be (as the pattern says to do), I had no idea where the end was.

Basically, the hem border instructions were next to impossible to follow. I’m sure I did it all wrong, and I didn’t have enough yarn for the size I wanted, but I still like it.
