I’m trying to make a packer for my boyfriend and I wanted it to be really durable, so I’m nålbinding it with size 10 cotton crochet thread. It would probably be even sturdier in linen but I didn’t have that, and also it might’ve been a bit scratchy. Traditional wool splicing isn’t suitable for this thread, so the lengths are attached using the Russian Join.

This is hopefully in the Mammen stitch, or at least that was my intention. Since nålbinding isn’t super easy with non-wool materials and small weights, I’ve sort of adapted it to using a single knitting needle in place of a thumb, and using a tapestry needle instead of a nåle. I can get much tighter and smaller stitches this way, but I’m not confident that what I’m actually making is the Mammen stitch. If you can tell, please let me know!
