Notes

05-24-2018

Having completed the first sock, I can confirm that the size small fits my daughter’s size 8 foot. It’s a snug fit, which I prefer, as I anticipate it will stretch out. I did 4 repeats of the pattern on the foot.

Halfway through, I gave up the cable needle and switched to twisting the stitches. MUCH better. The cable needle for one stitch, on such small yarn, was cumbersome.

I find this pattern to be confusing to a novice sock knitter. After the heel is turned, the pattern gives details for the foot pattern--before the gusset instructions. If reading in order, it appears that you are expected to begin the foot pattern before starting the gusset. You are NOT. The food pattern description is just a general note pertaining to the second needle in the first gusset round. I scoured several patterns and messaged a few people to inquire about this, so I hope my notes will help some other sock novice. I’m sure to an experienced sock knitter, this is obvious. I’m an experienced knitter, but not of socks, so I was very confused.

I used Eye of Partridge stitch on the heel because it’s stronger, and I prefer it aesthetically.

I really love this pattern. Once I got going, the cables are intuitive and simple to follow without looking at the pattern. Plus, it’s beautiful!
