I substituted the yarn, which I obviously miscalculated because it took more than twice what the pattern called for. Aside from the high yarn costs, I’m thrilled with the blanket. It is thick, heavy, warm and soft. Oh, and gorgeous! It’s like sitting beneath a pile of soft wool cables. I told my girls it’s a family heirloom.

I did adjust the pattern somewhat to include another set of rows whereby all of the sections are cabled. I actually did this in error, then decided to continue with it because I liked the effect.

Here’s an explanation of my inadvertent variation of this pattern, that creates the little triple twists:

For the repeating pattern portion…

1st row: (RS). K6. P2. K10. Rep from to last 8 sts. P2. K6.
2nd and alt rows: K8. P10. K2. Rep from to last 6 sts. K6.
3rd row: As 1st row.
5th row: K6. P2. C10B. P2. K10. Rep from to last 8 sts. P2. K6.
7th and 9th rows: As 1st row.
11th row: As 5th row.
13th and 15th rows: As 1st row.
17th row: as 5th and 11th rows.
19th and 21st rows: As 1st row.
23rd row: K6. * P2. K10. P2. C10B. Rep from * to last 8 sts. P2. K6.
25th and 27th rows: as 1st row.
29th row: As 23rd row.
31st & 33rd rows: as 1st row.
35th row: as 23rd row.
36th row: as 2nd row.
These 36 rows form Cable Pat.
