Sometimes, I think I’m a glutton for punishment. After finding an error in my mini-mania scarf, I couldn’t stomach ripping it back and I didn’t want to keep going. So, I needed to find something else to make. I really love the look of this top, even though it is a bit beyond my skill level. Knit and learn.
I’m using an unknown sock yarn that was given to me in a large destash. Merino. I don’t think any nylon, but I’m not sure.
7/20/2014 - I’m about 3 inches into the body. I put it on my daughter and it fit perfectly with just the initial yoke blocking. I think she’ll get decent use out of it.
10/10/2014 - I finished this a few weeks ago, but my camera was gone, so it took me a while to “complete” it. I really enjoyed the pattern and I plan to make more, including one for myself.
Unfortunately, this one was a little too snug on my daughter, so it will need to get passed on to someone else. It fits far closer to a 4 than a 6, so that is something I’ll consider in the future.
My buttons are all messed up, though at least the line up with the holes. I may redo it at some point, I haven’t decided.
I slip stitch crocheted up the side, around the neck, and back down the other side, adding button loops as I went. While it gave it nice structure, I think I’d go looser next time and do knit button holes.
7/19/2014 - I joined the pieces yesterday (took 2 tries, as my picked up stitches were way too loose the first time). Because I don’t know the yardage for the skein I’m using, I knit about 2 inches before moving the body to a spare cord and doing the sleeves. I wanted a tank style, so I did 3 rounds of stockinette then 3 rounds of garter before binding off. There is a slight curl to the edges, which I is rather cute.
The underarms are a bit messy. On one side, my CO stitches ended up in garter (DoH!), so I just matched the other side. Of course, when I did pick them up, I picked up one side properly (you can see the garter) and the other side I picked up a stitch deep (the garter ended up on the WS and my underarm was a row short for 6 stitches). After much deliberation, I left it alone and did a short row to compensate for the lost stitches. I isn’t perfect, but it is for my daughter and under the arm. If it is the only mistake a I make, I’ll be thrilled.
7/16/2014 - I’m half way through the back panel. This is a very quick knit do far (quick if you aren’t like me and constantly make mistakes). I’ve gotten plenty of practice tinking. I learned my lesson though. I count stitches after every row. Faster to do that than tink back through the lace.
I started both front panels at the same time, working from opposite sides of the ball. For some reason, the left side and I couldn’t get on the same page and half way through I had to rip back to fix an error. I almost left it, but as it was in the edge eyelet, it would have haunted me. I ripped it back, then finished the entire panel before finishing the right side.
