From prior execution
Base increases written out because the symbols are small.
Chain 46.
R1: Work SC down 1 side, SC in tip; SC down 2nd side; SC in tip and join with SL (94 SC)
R2: no increases
R3: 2 increases immediately before and after each tip stitch for 8 increases (102 SC)

R1: Chain 3 and 1 DC in first Stitch. 2 DC in next st; DC in next; 2 DC in next.
Just before tip, 2DC 1DC 2 DC 1 DC tipDC 1DC 2DC 1 DC 2 DC
Just before 2nd tip
2DC 1DC 2 DC 1 DC finalDC
This increases to 110 DC plus 1 CH 3

Row 2 is CH 2 (11 FP 11 BP) 5 times to cover the 111 stitches

I think there’s a typo on the chart page. It numbers row 1 as the all DC row and then 2 times a repeating pattern of 12 rows. I think the final row should be numbered 25.

Charted pattern -- the only odd character is an x with a 2 sided square. This means to work 2 SC into the stitch it points to.

Small variations in the number of DCs (Row 1 of the Sides) can be corrected when Row 2 begins. That is, if you have too many DCs, work a couple of DCs together. Too few work a couple of extra FPDCs.

It’s helpful to trace the bottom when it’s completed if you are doing a lining. It will be used as a pattern for the lining.

Note: If doing a lining, it’s helpful to include a ‘life line“ when the rows of all SCs begin. Makes stitching the liner easy to line up.
Reminder that the pattern calls for fingering weight to be held double, so depending on yarn used, it’s either 612 yards not held double or 1224 yards held doubled.
(Note that this time I finished the body without finishing any of the cones -- each cone is 450 yards, so 612 yards is generous.)

May need extra yarn for the handles.

Hook Information

Using Aero size 3.5 mm

10-21-2021 Liner fabric and handle cord purchased

I was happy to see gold color upholstery cord at Jo Ann’s Fabrics. Means that the cord won’t show through when it’s covered.

I’d like to use buckram with the purse liner, so that means a double liner.

10-25-2021 Body Finished

Ready to measure up the lining and create the handle. Am thinking about using a Clover template to create a sort of buckle so it closes.

Could also close it with a zipper in the lining.

Decision will likely be based on whether I have a zipper in my sewing stash.

11-02-2021 Handle

Chain 6 and then SC5, ch1, turn Ch 5 until the narrow rectangle is long enough to cover the cording.

Lay cording in rectangle, handstitch it together. Leave a bit open to join the cording. Cording wrapped in thread to join, then coated in thread lock. Cord and cover then closed.

Pinned to purse with stitched together end at the end where the turning occurred. Pinned to maintain evenness.

11-14-2021 Handle attached; ends woven in

Figured out the lining but will do that another day.

11-16-2021 Idea for a closure

The crossbody purse has a closure that might work. Will have to wait until it’s lined to see.

Also look into Thread motifs book for ideas.

12-26-2021 Creating the Lining

Next time: Use a fabric that’s the same color on the back and front to avoid the situation where everything has to be double.

Buckram used on the bottom only. Cut out buckram to size of bottom. Cut 2 pieces of fabric to cover it, cutting about an inch extra to leave room for turning and stitching the tube to it.

Stitch the buckram to one of the fabric pieces on the WS. WS sides together, stitch around the buckram leaving an opening on the long side and leaving about 1/4 inch to attach the tube. Turn the buckram inside out and now the RS shows. Iron in the opening and stitch it closed.

Make a tube of fabric, creased at the top (where it will be stitched to purse. Turn it right side out and iron-in one end; the other end remains rough. Starting with the iron-in end, stitch it to the covered buckram. When it approaches the iron-in end, stop and trim the tube if necessary. Insert the rough end into the iron-in end. Probably need to handstitch that seam.

08-23-2022 Champion Ribbon! at the County Fair

i admit to being surprised to see my purse got not only a First Place ribbon but a Grand ribbon! It was the easiest to make of all 3 of my Fair entries.
