A stash buster afghan using sport / fingering weight cottons.
Hook size 4.00
Swatch -- 24 chains or 4 shells is about 6 inches.
So to make something 60 wide, begin with 240 chains. Stitch markers every 24 should work for counting and helping with the initial setup row.
Change from pattern: (1) instead of 9 DC in each shell, it will be 7. 9 was too jammed up. (2) Base chain is a bit tight. Should have done this with a larger hook or I should have allowed 3 chains between instead of 2 chains.
Have to decide soon how to use up the extra burgundy. Two options -- (1) save the extra for the border or (2) make 4 rows of wheels each time.
Decision made to save burgundy for border:
Pattern is …
3.5 Ecru wheels
Repeat the next 4 until out of black
4 burgundy wheels
1 ecru wheel
3 black wheels
2 ecru wheels
End with 3.5 ecru wheels to make the top flat.
There should be enough burgundy for a border.

10-13-2018 Lost: one ball of black
Got quite a bit of done while in Jamaica, but lost a ball of yarn on one of the flights home. It was wrapped tightly in saran wrap to keep it clean and squashed in the seat beside me. I think the flight attendant thought it was trash and tossed it while I was in the loo. It wasn’t under any of the nearby seats.
10-20-2018 Pondering about the black
Decision needs to be made on the black -- it has 9 strands . If I remove 2 strands from the remaining 7 balls, I will have enough strands of yarn to replace the ball lost in flight. (Actually it will make 2 more balls) On the other hand, the project now becomes less portable due to trickiness of removing strands while using the ball.
On the other hand … the black was thicker than the other two yarns.
12-29-2018 Change in black wheels
Decided to make each black wheel with 6 DCs rather than 7. The change eliminates the slight bulging of the black wheels. It should also kind of make up for the lost ball of yarn since each half wheel will be 1 DC less.
04-27-2019 Calculating the end
Black stripe -- Each black stripe takes 73.4 grams and I have 218 grams. Close to enough for 3. Will begin skipping some DCs in the wheels.
Cream -- each cream row takes about 12 grams. I have 160 grams left or 13 rows. That should give me enough.
Burgundy -- each burgundy stripe of 4 rows takes about 71 grams. I have 325 grams remaining easily enough for 3 more stripes.
06-14-2019 Border Notes
There is enough burgundy for a border.
Total burgundy is about 125 grams.
Simple SC border -- halfway around -- took 7.4 grams.
Roughly I should be able to get at least 6 rounds.
The top and bottom: Both top and bottom have marked small circles from either a cluster of stitches or an SC. In between the cluster is 2 SC.
The sides are being done by feel.
