My granddaughter fell in love with the baby owl.
She also wants one for her baby sister. So will be making two!
crochet size choice I started with the suggested D3 (3.25) and was struggling with inserting hook and counting the chains. A. My eyes are not that good :) B. I have neuropathy in my fingers. Actually crochet has helped in improving my fingers. So I went up to size F (could not locate E in my box), then tried G. There wasn’t much difference in the two and G(4mm) was much easier on my hands. The stitches may not be as tight as needed for amigurumi but they were tight enough. See the comparison picture. Left with F, right with G.
Yarn choice I have a lot of weight class 4 leftovers from other projects. I had purchased the pale green in Impeccable because I liked the color and it was for another knit toy project. However, the crochet does not work very well with this yarn, it is rough and splits a lot. So I will not be buying this anymore. I have 3 or 4 skeins in different colors, will have to find a use for them.
For stability, instead of plastic pallets (since I used a larger hook, the stitches are not so tight), I used plastic stones that are used in flower vases. I also added a couple of jingle bells. My 15 month old grand daughter loves shaking every toy.
Very easy pattern and very well written. Thank you Ami !
