Though this is a stockinet stitch blanket, the colors of this yarn look very attractive. Interestingly, same yarn looks better in knitting than in crochet.

I tried the swatch with the given gauge in the pattern, I did not like the look of the resulting fabric. Size 7 needles didn’t quite make the gauge and size 8 came out a bit too loose and large for a DK yarn. So I am going with size 6 needles and 20 stitches to 4 inches. (gauge was 18 stitches to 4”).

I also found that my cast on edge was curving using German twisted long tail cast on. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as I have spent almost a week learning different cast on methods. Special thanks to oftroy for suggestions and her wonderful page of cast on methods.

Ended up with Tillybuddy’s twisted cable cast on. Oftroy had a link to the video here. Used 1 size larger needle for cast on.

It’s finally done. I have put it down many times, I guess stockinet stitch turned out to be lot more boring than I thought. I also decided to make it 40” long which is crib size. I had extra yarn. So this will be in use a little longer.

Another variation, I am stitching a soft fabric backing. By the time the baby starts using it, it will be cold in the NE US, so it will be a warmer blanket. Later I could even stuff it with polyester to make a soft quilt.
