I made the size 4 hoping it would easily fit a 3 yr old girl.
However, since no measurements of the finished iarticle were given, it turned out to be not long enough after I finished the back. Wanted to make it 14” long, so added more of the white which made the sleeves a lot wider than the original pattern. ( forgot to measure before I gifted ).
The result was quite acceptable and actually looked nice on a 3 yr. old. Will get the measurements later.
A picture is worth a thousand words. That is so correct, the moment I saw the macaroon pullover picture, I wanted to make it for my little granddaughter. She will be 3 in a few months so a birthday gift for her. Her favourite color is Yellow. While she pronounces her words and colors quite well, somehow yellow is “Lello”, hence the title. I ordered the yarn not realizing the yarn is in hanks. I don’t have a swift or a ball winder so by hand it will be. YouTube has quite a few videos on the subject, a couple even using a hand mixer to wind the yarn. Clever ! I will rely on my good old hands.
Sept 8th: I didn’t finish by her birthday but now I am working fast so she can wear it for fall.
Finished the front. It looks rather small. 13” length. Checked with my daughter, length should be at least 14”. I wish the pattern included finished measurements, e.g length, width and arm length. Another shortcoming is it switches between cm and rows. E.g. knit 8 cm, then 6 rows, buttonhole row, 2 more rows etc. You have to make sure you are changing color on the same side. Ideally I would increase the length by adding an inch to the main color section, since I had already finished the arm yoke, decided to increase the length in arm area. I was informed that wide arms are ‘in’ so that worked out.
Sept 24: Back is done. Looked at 3 needle bind off videos, did not like the ridge it creates. So decided to learn the Kitchener stitch. My mom used to join shoulders that way, but I never knitted any sweaters so never learned. You tube has several good instructions. Hopefully this project will complete in 2 days.
Oct 3: Far from it, it has taken me 3 days to join the shoulder seam with Kitchener stitch. Part of it was learning curve, the other, cotton yarn is very slippery. As a hind side, I should have put the stitches on wooden needles, but then I have only 2 pairs in size 2 and 3. The stitches kept slipping off and I lost my concentration several times to see where the loop went. Oh well it is done now. Next is the side seam, should have knitted in the round.
Oct 9, 2018: The neck opening turned out to be too tight. Should have tried it before weaving the shoulders. Made a mess trying to undo the Kitchener stitch, so posted on the forum as to how to fix it. Got some great help and advice. Working on it, I just keep dropping stitches. Need some non slippery needles.
next time when I knit for my other GD, I will use the surprisingly stretchy bind off as mentioned in JadaGauen‘s notes.
Finished the shoulder that I had opened with tab and two buttons. As in picture 1.
October 14, 2018: Ta da ! Finally finished…… learnt a lot about knitting sweaters along the way.
April 26, 2018: Cast on 59 stitches and knitted a few rows.
This will be an in between project to take along to appointments etc. while the lace project stays home. I did take it along but usually ended up making mistakes.. Garter is mindless knitting.
May 28th: 21 cm of yellow done, I was measuring the knitting on my granddaughter to see if the yellow part of the pattern will be long enough, she surprised us by saying this is a stylish dress. How do kids learn these words ?
July 28th: sitting on the back burner, got busy with house guests. Back to knitting. This is boring as well as relaxing
, the two qualities of garter stitch. As I am thinking of not doing another garter stitch project, her sister wants one too in red and white. She is 8 so it will take a long time to knit.
