My mom is a beginner knitter, and I was trying to encourage her to try knitting in the round for the first time. We selected this pattern out of her Knitting Bible book, but she quickly got overwhelmed and asked me to do it instead. Now I’m trying out reading a pattern for the first time in a while!

Here’s where we went wrong:
She’s never knitted in the round before. She hasn’t cast on a project in a while. She cast on 8 extra stitches and I didn’t notice for a while. We weren’t sure what the size of our needles was. We weren’t sure what the weight of our yarn was (I still have no idea what it is). The pattern wasn’t entirely clear on whether the brim should be 5 rows or 9 rows tall?

But! This is my first time knitting a round item from the bottom up instead of the top down, so I finally learned one method of closing it off at the crown. Interesting little pull-string thing.

In all… maybe it’ll fit on a fursuit head?
