This is my first time ever adding a steek to a sweater in order turn this into a cardigan. I think I have that figured out but I just need to finalize the details.
PROJECT NOTES
-
Going to use 7 sts for the steek area. CO 7, PM, CO 131, then placed a beginning of round marker, joined to work in the round.
-
Will also work the neck band before starting the color work. The colorwork will be worked over the 131 sts, so I will loose the last column on chart B on the last repeat. But I am ok with the webs being a little off… after all it is a spider web.
-
Started the neck ribbing and I don’t like it on the same size needle as the rest of the sweater. So I will frog and use a smaller needle for all the ribbing.
-
Ended up using US 4 for the neck ribbing. Worked 6 rows of ribbing before starting the colorwork.
-
With the Size 5 my gauge seems a little big. So I will not do the last swoop on the chart. I will do a few rows in stockinette and then break for the sleeves. I will also go down a needle size for the body and sleeves.
-
knit 6 rows of plain stockinette before breaking for the sleeves.
-
Cardigan is still a little loose, after 4 rows on bottom ribbing on size 4 needles I went down to Size 3.
-
Worked bottom ribbing for 26 rows and then BO loosely in pattern.
-
worked sleeve decreases as pattern instructed. Then I only did 10 rows of ribbing on the sleeve band before BO in pattern.
-
I sew the steek on my machine. I run two lines on each side close to each other just to make sure. Then I pick up 3 sts every 4 rows for the button band making sure to have an odd number of sts. I start with the left front band so I know where to place the buttons. Then I can make the holes in the right spot on the right band. I do all of this before cutting this way the steek areas fold nicely towards the inside once it is cut.
