I have found the courage to make this scarf. I need it. I work in IT, but in a position where I need to dress up a bit. This lets my nerd flag fly and still will look professional.
I am calling it The Lace of Rassilon because, hey. Doctor Who.
04-07-2016 Lace Pattern Simple
The lace portion of this pattern is actually a fairly simple lace. It’s in sets of six, with two repeats on the RS of each stitch pattern, then an increase on the WS at the end, lather/rinse/repeat in sets of 24 until you’ve added six stitches to the end.
Still, I have discovered that even simple lace you can almost memorize is not real the ideal car-riding project. I’m going to have to start something else for me to work on in the car and bring to work to knit on my lunch break.
04-16-2016 Decided to Block It
After reading some project notes from other people, I’ve decided to block the lace part of the shawl before I go on to pick up the eleventy million stitches I need to for the TARDIS part.

So many stitches to pick up!
Instead of trying to pick up exactly 311 stitches, I cheated and picked up along the line what seemed reasonable. Turned out to be 212 stitches. So I fudged and increased evenly along the edge to get to 311. It worked out okay.
Also, I did not pick up stitches in any official way, but used a crochet hook and picked up that way. It worked. You won’t be able to tell the difference on the finished product and it kept my sanity.
I am now at the beginning of the TARDIS part of the chart and have learned a new skill -- BOBBLES.
I admit that this is not a texture that thrills me and I will be unlikely to use it except as an element to suggest something in an image (rather like the blue light at the top of the police box).

This is an amazing shawl. I’m going to be frank, the real reason I knitted it was because I am a Whovian and I like Stealth Geek stuff. I’m not really even a fan of this particular blue (but one cannot knit it in any other color… It’s Just Not Done)
But oh my word….
The shape is great for draping around your shoulders and across your chest, which is my favorite way to wear one. It’s dense enough to be nicely warm without being overpowering and it just LOOKS like.
Atherly came up with a serious winner with this design.
