Notes

I was going to make a Hand to Hand Aran and changed my mind.

I’m using the Clustered Braid Cable pattern from Barbara Walker’s Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns for the sleeves. I am not entirely sure what I am going to do for the front panel. But other than a wide front panel, the rest of the sweater is going to be in stockingette.

Decided

I felt like the Lattice Diamond pattern went rather well with the clustered Braid Cable. I messed up one of the lattice diamonds, but felt that ripping back almost five inches wasn’t as painful as a little surgery on the pattern. It did okay.

I am thinking that because I am so fond of cowl necks that I will do this as a cowl neck when I get that far,

I am only trying to decide between a raglan or saddle shoulder. I am thinking it is probably going to be a raglan at the moment.

I’ve gotten to the neck. While I’m eager for this to be done, and kind of grinding my teeth at the fact that I’ve chosen to make this cowl neck, I think I am going to be extremely pleased with this sweater when I am actually done with it. So far it looks amazing.

I am so pleased with this particular project I could pop.

I took the time to practice grafting before I tried the underarms. I feel like I need to practice certain techniques before I try them out on a particular garment I am making. In fact, that’s probably worthy of a blog post. I did practice the cables and other things as part of the gauge swatch.

I’m an IT professional, and one of the things that is sooo important is never to skip the design phase. I think that’s true of good knitting as well. While you can just cast on and go for it, the quality of what you make really does go up when you put in the spadework.

Nearly four years later…

The neckline softened after several washings and spread out. However, it wasn’t really long enough to be a nice cowl.

However…

Hey, I can KNIT!

I picked out the bind-off and added about six inches to the neck -- a tedious bit of knitting and probably why I made the darn thing too short to begin with. Right now, it’s still a bit stiff, but I figure after a wash or two, it’ll soften into a draped cowl, which was my original idea of the sweater, anyway.
