Notes

Updated October, 2023 I wish that I would have made this sweater a bit shorter in length for the body, and with longer sleeves. So, I cut off the seed stitch hem and the seed stitch hem of the sleeves and am updating this piece. So far, so good! I am also using a 2 x 2 rib for both the body of the sweater and the sleeves. I will get more wear out of this piece. I like the fit so much better!

Purchased at Madison Knitting Guild’s Knit-in 2019. Linnea Pullover pattern purchased as well.

Swatching today.

DK or light worsted?
I think that I did the math correctly.

265 yds in 115 grams,
therefore,
215 yds in 100 grams

Cascade 220 (220 yards per 100 grams) is a light worsted weight yarn.

This is listed as DK weight.

I will take a photo to see if this BFL Kit’s colors show up as having enough contrast.

Still “iffy” on working the Linnea. I might have to switch to a Strange Brew design.

Casting On

After swatching, I will go down a needle size to US5 (3.75mm) and US 3 (3.25mm).

I plan to adjust the neck edge to provide for a smaller opening. So, I will add short rows and/or go down a needle size.

October 31, 2019

Cast on for a larger size. I will gradually decrease to a smaller size at the waistline to accommodate a smaller bust.

The seed stitch at the bottom takes so much yarn! I hope that there will be enough yarn to get the length I like for my sweaters.

If not, I hope that I can purchase the Graphite Colorway at Ewetopia Yarns. Today when I checked, there is no availability on her website.

November 3, 2019

Combining the skeins for this with helical knitting. I am so glad that I am using this new to me technique as the skeins have different tonal quality and quantity of darker bits. Blends beautifully.

I love the fabric created with this BFL base.

November 4, 2019

There will 4” of positive ease. Will measure to one of my sweaters to see if it’s too big.

November 4, 2019

17” from underarm to bottom of pullover.
Checking gauge. Thinking that I will change to US4/US2 needles from the waist shaping on to the yoke.

November 7, 2019

12” so far on the body. Will knit to 17.” Switch to working the sleeves.

November 12, 2019

Gradual decreases to the waist, then knit until measures 17.“ Put aside and knit sleeves. Will decide if I can make the body longer when the sleeves are completed.

Will knit each sleeve with one cake of yarn, not helical knitting as I did for the body of the sweater.

Casting on for 3/4 length sleeves, 2aat, on US2 needles.

November 16, 2019

Knitting the 3/4 length sleeves concurrently. 2aat was not working for me. Too fiddly. 13” sleeves.

Next, to join the sleeves and then the colorwork yoke.

November 19, 2019

I think that the colorwork will not show up. 3 of the 5 skeins are too dark and will not show up.

So, I am at a standstill until I can figure out which colorways to use for this colorwork.

November 30, 2019

Progress on the yoke. Even though there is not a lot of contrast in three colors, it’s an interesting combo.

How to decrease 71 stitches evenly? No details in the pattern. This is an excellent website with interactive features! Link to reduce stitches evenly.

First Fitting. Decided that the neck needs to be narrower

Rib stitch instead of seed stitch?
Go down a needle size?
Short rows?
Or, all of the above?

December 4, 2019

Ends are woven in.
Wet-blocked with a lot of gray dye release in the water while soaking. Re-rinsed multiple times holding the colorwork out of the water so that the dark dye could not be absorbed into the red, blue and yellow parts of the sweater. I am a bit disappointed in that regard.

December 5, 2019 Neck Edge

I decided to work 2 rows straight with US 4 needles after the colorwork. Then switched to US2 needles for 1 x 1 ribbing for 3/4 inches. And then bound off.

Stretchy bind off link. The excellent technique begins at around 2:15.

October 14, 2023

Going to shorten this sweater and lengthen the sleeves. The stretchy bind-off is hard to remove! But will be worth it. Thinking I’m going to finish with ribbing rather than the current seed stitch.

October 21, 2023

Finished the revision. Soaked and blocking.
