Smash the squish!
CAST-ON
. Andrea’s video tutorial
… I would add, space out the CO stitches a little so they are not so tight when you go back to pick them up
KFB + KFBF
. I find myself sometimes doing these on the tips of my needles which makes them tight.
SECTION 1:
. After a couple rows, I put a removable stitch marker on the WS to help me remember when I get zoned out
. KFB+YO = WS
. KFBF = RS (or F for Front)
BIND-OFF
. Agree with Izznit’s notes (and a lot of others) - the contrast BO will create blips of the MC. I would rather have those on the side with the MC brioche columns dominant. So do one more garter row before BO.
. But I’m also considering doing an I-cord BO - then would I really need those two contrast rows as per pattern?
. My spreadsheet estimates have been really close so far, so I’m thinking that even with the two rows plus a larger needle for a 3-stitch I-cord, I should need between 12-15g.
… Do I use the color shifting 16.5 I have left of the Zauberball?
… or use one of the olive green 20+g Miss Babs remnants?
… … I like the brighter, plumper, bubblier discontinued Cosmic
. or do I scrounge up more LBD and see if I have enough for another 30g garter to make that last section the same height as the others?
… updated my spreadsheet and ran the math - would need around 31g
… Leftovers = 24.9
… current blob remaining = 4.9
. Went with the LBD.
… Did not make the section the same height
… Did an additional garter ridge (two more knit rows) with no increases - which used up almost the blob remaining
… switched to US 6
… CO 3 sts
… 3-st i-cord all the way
… Looks great. No curling/flipping.
DIMENSIONS - Unblocked
. Depth: 17.75”
. Length: 90”
DIMENSIONS - Blocked
. Depth: 17”
. Length: 105”
Wet-blocked to arc, because I want the lovely curls when the tips hang. Also will need to smooth out the transitions between garter and brioche.
YARN
A little nervous about yardage since the Zb is light and the CC pattern weights come to 380y/109g. Will weigh as I go. Kind of thinking about reducing the brioche sections by a round or two since they will stretch with blocking.

YARN IDEAS
The one that caught my eye along with a number of other people, is the Malabrigo Sock in Persia and Botticelli (?) red.
. requires 2 skeins solid MC and 1 skein CC
. Olivenstrasse Zauberball
… do I have enough Isager black?
… … 3x247 = 741y?
… … 3x271 = 813y?
… … feels thinner and lighter than the Zb
… … glad I didn’t go with it because I used a lot of the LBD
. bought two LBD in Staple Fingering
Future Possibilities
. TML in Dirty Panther (kind of brown leaning)
. TML in Antler (I think I have 2)
… love it with stripes of different colors
. Pashmina! Could use up that Rainwater
. TMoL in Pelican/OOAK?
