Found some Plucky that is a bit thicker, so will try the ribbing on US 1’s and colorwork on US 1.5’s.
FLOATS
. This is a thicker yarn than the one I used for the Hidden Hearts mitts, so I am hoping the dark does not peek through the light.
. I catch on spans 5+ stitches.
. I prefer to catch in the center, but try to plan ahead of time to avoid stacking catches. There are a couple spots on this chart to watch for that.
. I also avoid catching a float below an M1.
INCREASES
. I am doing the directional increases using M1L (on the left) and M1R (on the right).
NEEDLES
. US 1 ribbing
. US 1.5 colorwork
. US 2 (or 2.5?) for bind-off
. I use a two circ needle method, with about half on one and half on the other.
. The palm is smaller (fewer sts) than the top of the hand.
… This is nice because the motif then wraps a little more around the sides of the hand.
RIGHT MITT
. Dividing stitches by 4 (ribbing k2:p2)
… 1st needle is top of hand = 32
… 2nd = 28
. Colorwork after increase is adjusted to 35 to 29 sts
Wrist rounds:
. Hidden Hearts mitts: 24r got me a little more than 2” relaxed, and 2” on the line when around my wrist.
. Guessing this plumper yarn will need fewer?
… 20r relaxed gets me 2”, a little less the more it is stretched.
LEFT MITT
. Ribbing: 1st needle is palm side = 28 sts; 2nd = 32 sts
. Colorwork: 29 to 35 sts
BIND-OFF
. Using a US 2 dpn (or 2.5?)
. Simple bind-off: K2, pass first st gently over second, knit next, pass. Goal is to not be tight, but not let gentler pull be uneven.
BLOCKING
. 15-30 minute soak in cold water with hair conditioner
. gentle massage of stitches once fully saturated
DIMENSIONS - Unblocked
. 9” long by 9-ish“ circ
DIMENSIONS - Blocked
. 9.25-ish“ long by 9.25” circ
