Notes

A shiny alolan vulpix for an art exchange with a fellow artist friend :) I’ve requested a doll repaint for a froslass gijinka, while she wished for a shiny alolan vulpix with a beauty mark.

She had some requests regarding the pose (and a beauty mark), so I’m combining multiple patterns to match her request. Let’s see how it goes! :D

Edit 1: Oh wow, this pattern is a mess. Oh well xD“
Edit 2: Started out using the above mentioned patterns as a base but ended up completely rewriting all of it.

----Mods----

Body - 3mm
I’ve started with the Glaceon body and added a few rows (to a max of 50st) after starting with 8st for the mc.
The goal was to shorten the body to match Vulpix’ proportions (also the legs will be shorter and the head much bigger, this should achieve the baby-look). To be honest it was simply trial & error. If the proportions didn’t match or the body looked too short I simply added a few more rows and tried again. No magic here.

Head - 4mm
The head was made by a pony pattern from The Nerdy Knitter (yes, this Vulpix is a total Frankensteins Monster) and adding a little more definition to the muzzle. My first 2 attempts turned out too small or wrongly proportioned. Like the body, a complete unravel was necessary for the head at some point.
Since the original Glaceon head wasn’t used, a neck piece had to be added. I’ve used the technique show in the Rarity pattern.

Ears - 4mm
Starting with a mr (3) I kept adding 3stitches per row and increased up to row 12 (30), reapeated the 6th+ 13-15th row with a sc all and decreased 2stitches per row for rows 16 and 17. It gave a nice triangle shape for the ear, the inner ear part was surface sticthed with a dark violet color. The ears were filled with wire which was stuck in the head, the ears were then sewn on. That way the ears could bend a little and keep their form.

Legs - 4mm
Followed the glaceon pattern except for shortening the legs (-4 rows) and adding 3 extra st from rows 3-4 and having 2 extra st for every following row (extra stitches compared to the original, not adding 2st on top of the 3 from before :)). The goal was to widen the paws and giving the legs a little chubby look.

Tails + Head fluff
Since the Bombon yarn is so…fluffy… it was hard to see what I was doing. I combined the Bombon yarn with matching Catania Originals yarn in a similar color. This way it was pretty easy to find the yarn strings. I’ve also used a hook size 6mm since I crocheted very loosely (another trick to work with fluffy yarn). It didn’t turn out patchy at all, despite the loose stitches since the smaller ‘support’ yarn tightened the whole construct. It’s a bit hard to explain properly but just use a bigger hook and a thinner support yarn and you’ll be fine.
Oh and the pattern was winged. With the fluffy yarn making everything bigger than the rest I just made thinning tubes for the tails and some random fluff for the head o,o“
The tails received additional wiring which makes them posable. The wire was longer than the tails so I could stick them in the body for more security. The fluffy yarn made the tails extremely wide, so in the end I used the leftover yarn tails and bound the tail roots tightly together. This gave them a better shape and looked a lot better.
