Here is my adaptation of the pattern to get it to fit using the yarn and needles I chose:

Ribbed edge for 8-10 rounds using

knit 2 rounds
purl 4 rounds
knit 2 rounds
k1p1 for 3 rounds

repeat 2 times (3 iterations total)

knit 2 rounds
purl 3 rounds
knit 1 round
k1p1 for 2 rounds

repeat 1 time (2 iterations total)

Start decreasing on the knit rounds before the k1p1 rounds of the final iteration above.

Decreases:
K13 k2tog (repeat for 6 total iterations within the round)
K12 k2tog, etc
Decrease every other rounds until you get to
K11 k2tog - then decrease every round
Until 12 stitches left
