Notes

So Mum really liked her first cowl and was dropping some heavy hints for another one. Which colour? Red, red or red - but only if you have time, only if you have some spare wool, oh actually don’t bother … you all know what it’s like.

Mercifully I had a ball of the BWM Luxury in the tower of plastic tubs of yarn in the spare room, and it couldn’t have been redder. Feedback from my client was that the first cowl was a bit wide so I cast on 120 stitches for this one, then knitted the first and last stitches together to join them in the round.

I changed the pattern a bit, just to make the plain red a bit more interesting. This is what I did:

Knit four rows moss stitch for the edge bit.

For the middle bit, knit 8 rows of stocking stitch followed by two rows of moss stitch. Do this five times.

For the last bit, knit 8 more plain rows and four rows of moss stitch. Try to cast off in pattern - this is tough if you’re on your second glass of wine.

Before blocking, this was about 22cm high and about 28cm wide, which Mum says is pretty good. Yay for me - it’s always good to clock up a few brownie points with your mother, before you become a disappointment and/or she uses your middle name to signify how much trouble you’re in.
