To start this off, I used various squares from the Jan Eaton book using up cotton from my stash.
I fancied a boho valance/curtain for my shed. I plan to make lots of squares, with a lacy join and a top and bottom open lattice thingy, plus some dangly flowers and shapes for Summer, and pom poms and snowflakes for Winter.
We’ll see how I get on.

Made some squares and I wanted something to go underneath them with pointy bits because I want hanging strips with shapes and beads. I really like the Seascape wall hanging bottom so I decided to adapt that.
I did 9 fans (with hindsight I’d have been better with 11 but you live and learn).
I worked that pattern to a couple of rows above the fan and then I wanted to straighten it up. In my mind I see a deep valance with dangles, not a curtain. I could see how the seascape pattern straightened up so I followed that, then did dc (US sc) into all the spaces and stitch tops.
My next rows were straightforward tc ch1 in every other stitch across. I did a few rows like this til it looked deep enough.
I then needed to make a top. Easiest for me is to do a row of dc (US SC) to start any pattern because you get a nice neat, straight line from which to work. I did a ch slightly longer than my window width, and used some colours to brighten up the otherwise straight pelmet.
Throughout I was making little shapes. I’ve linked a few above, but really it was all pretty random and whatever took my fancy.
Most frogged bit was trying to join all the top bits. My fan section was narrower than the granny squares/pelmet bit. I joined the grannies first making dc into first st of one square, with ws facing made ch3 then dc into a stitch on second square. After that it was ch3 dc back and fro, skipping one or two dc between (making W shape across). I then joined the 3 sections together in the same way, fudging the number of missed stitches so it looked sort of balanced.
Dangly bits are simple chains with the shapes added randomly.
Not used to working without a pattern so this is taking ages! Working through the dangly bits now. Tantelisingly close
Got lots of little patterns from on-line sources. I got some beads and put them on a chain using a teeny tiny hook to pull the yarn through and close off with a ss.
To be able to hang it I needed to add some loops to the top edge, so I joined my yarn in the top right hand corner. Did a dc (UK) in the first stitch, ch10 then dc into the next 5 stitches. I repeated this to the end.

Some serious blocking going on, can’t wait to put this up.
I’ve got some 12mm dowel from the DIY shop and hung it on hooks above the window frame.
I’m thinking that in Winter I might add some snowflakes and white pompoms (snowball like)
