I’ve been meaning to make this for ages and having lost my crojo for too long, thought it might help get it back.
To fit a double bed I decided to do an extra set of squares, using the sample ‘hearts’ square so I had 7 different patterns (rather than 6 as per the pattern).
The squares are really very easy to do and it has been quite therapeutic.
I might end up making 2 of these because I bought waaaaay too much yarn. Each set of 8 squares took exactly 2 balls of the colour. I’ll let you know how many balls were needed for the joining and border later.
I’ve just joined my squares and am about to start the border, my favourite part. It’s the point in a project where everything finally comes together. I prefer to do my border using a hook half size down from the main, because I think it helps to stop rippling which can happen with crochet blankets.

So it took nearly 4 balls for the joining and border.
I’ll be honest, joining and sewing are not my favourite things but I enjoyed the border.
Because I added an extra square into the width I had to adjust my border stitches slightly on the short side. To do this I simply decreased one by crocheting 2tog just before the corner. Easy peasy.
I’m quite pleased with my colour choices, trying to mirror the shades in the pattern but using wool (I can’t get on with acrylic). My friend has just decorated her bedroom and I’m thinking I’ll gift this to her as it includes purple, whereas my bedroom doesn’t. I have a teal colour in my stash which if I replace the purple it’ll go better (told you I had miles too much yarn!).
