Notes

I had this recycled cotton for a knitted sweater pattern, but it turns out that even though there are no dye numbers, there is a difference in dye colour.
Wool and the Gang were great and agreed that I couldn’t knit a jumper from it. However I decided that I wanted to use it and I saw some little baskets when on holiday and thought - I could make that! So here we are.
I decided to use the basis of this basket pattern and just have a play as I went.
I am using 4 strands of the Billie Jean worked together on an 8mm hook. This hook is small enough to give a really firm fabric - any bigger and I think it would have been too slack to hold up. I like my baskets to sit up properly, not be floppy if that makes sense.
For the biggest basket I did 6 rounds for the base (then 5 then 4 for the other sizes).
I worked in the round for the base too - I’m not keen on ss joins. To keep track of the increases I use a running bit of contrasting yarn. I also vary where I put the increases, which avoids that problem where your ‘round’ ends up looking ‘octagonal’.
When it got nearly high enough I decided that I’d rather like it to look a bit smarter, so I used 4 strands of the plain cream as a contrast, just for a couple of rounds. Very pleased with the finished result.
